‘Bout TIME we made a pasta costume!!!! Really, this is SUCH a great group costume because you could be all sorts of pastas!! And obviously, it’s a cute mommy and me too. That tiny ravioli!!! This one is super simple and doesn’t take much time at all, too. Which is great!
Also a PSA! For little kiddos like Arlo, it’s extra easy because you can just make the costume out of craft foam! You could easily make the bowtie for a kid, or penne, or tortellini, any of ’em! For adult or older kid costumes, you gotta upgrade to foam padding (craft foam only comes in small sheets) which can be tricky to find sometimes, but I’ve got it linked for ya! Same goes for the adults, you could use the same ravioli tutorial, but with the foam padding to make it for an adult. Alright, ready!?

Pasta Costume Tutorial Step-by-Step
For the bow tie pasta costume:
- Cut out a rectangle of foam. It’s hard to give measurements for this because it will be different depending on how tall you are! Basically, I recommend cutting larger, then pinching the middle (like how it will be glued eventually and adjusting the size after seeing how it looks.
- Cut a zig zag pattern on the two shorter edges of the triangle.
- Spray paint one side with yellow spray paint. Let dry. Then spray paint the other side and let dry.
- Pinch the middle as shown in the photos above. You essentially do a pinch in the middle and then bring the two sides up to meet the pinch. Hot glue in place.
- Use your scissors to poke a hole through the back of the pinched part of the foam (about 1/2″ in from the fold) and run the elastic through it. Cut the elastic to the appropriate length to fit around your waist and then hot glue velcro on the ends (one piece on each side) so you can easily take the costume on and off!
For the ravioli costume:
- Cut two squares of foam to the size you need.
- Cut a curved/zig-zag edge around the entire perimeter of one of the squares.
- Run a line of hot glue along the zig-zaged edges, leaving a 3-4″ place open (for stuffing) and adhere it to the other square.
- Cut the edge of the other square so that it has the same zig-zag.
- Stuff the ravioli with stuffing. You don’t need too much, just a little!
- Glue the opening you left closed.
- Cut a piece of elastic to the length you need to fit around your child’s waist. Hot glue it to the back of the ravioli and then add velcro to each other edges for easy costume removal!

If you dressed all in red instead of white, it would have looked like marinara sauce!

I love this idea!! You could totally cut a pool noodle and either wrap it in fabric or spray paint it to be a Ziti or Ragatoni noodle!!

Hi,
I adore the bowtie pasta costume and am 100% replicating it this year. Can I ask what shade of yellow spray paint you used? It’s spot on.
Thanks for the inspo!
Best,
Emma

great idea! Since I’m doing this solo, I’ve decided to upgrade it with a long red wig, a head piece with a tomato, chilly, garlic and basil, and! I turn a pasta box into a small handbag…. hope it adds some kick
